Why I chose Graphic Design

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”

These words by Steve Jobs perfectly describes my thoughts on working. I believe everyone has their hidden talents and passion. For me, it was graphic design. Being creative and creating great graphic design gives me a high level of calm, happiness, and satisfaction. I wanted to become a freelance graphic designer that’s why I am pursuing this niche in freelancing, but sometimes, I don’t know where to start. I’ve been working as a Medical Representative in the pharmaceutical industry for over 9 years. With the company I am affiliated with until now, my work has filled a large part of my life. It consumes most of my time. I love how I grew professionally and how this career molded me into who I am today, I love how it helped me provide for my needs and my family financially, and for that, I will be forever grateful. But this pandemic changed me and my perspective, just like how it changed the world. It made me realize that I am losing focus on the more important things. Even before this pandemic started, everything has been very challenging and exhausting and it’s getting worse now because of the difficult situations. Too much stress is unhealthy and I can no longer find my peace. I am losing my spiritual growth and my anxieties are growing every day.

The Start of my Graphic Design Journey

Instead of dwelling on things I cannot control, I told myself that I needed to make a move to get out of this situation. Slowly, I started to look where I can get that peace and freedom. I kept on searching until I saw a website about Freelancing, I studied and researched more about this, I joined groups, watched videos, and read articles. Then I came across a review from a previous student of Filipino Virtual Assistance Academy. She mentioned that the course she took here was a “blessing from Jehovah” I felt relieved and felt that God gave me a new direction. My prayers were answered. Because I have no experience, I enrolled in the basic Freelancing (Virtual Assistance) Course and eventually chose Graphic Design as my niche. Everything I learned and yet to learn from this course was worth it. The course was very detailed and intensive, squeezing out my fullest potential.

Learning as a Freelance Graphic Designer

While on this course, I can say that I improved my creativity skills a lot by making different creative designs for my portfolios. I was also able to establish my own identity and create my brand. I am now confident to offer my services to anyone who needs them through my optimized freelancing accounts in Upwork and Online jobs Ph. I also enjoyed optimizing my social media accounts and making social media content where I was able to utilize my social media graphic designs. My favorite graphic design tool is Canva because I can design anything here and it is very user-friendly. There’s a lot of other resources out there I want to learn and explore. For me, learning is endless and our potential is limitless. I am very excited to do great work and share it with others.

Anything is Possible

When everything is uncertain, anything is also possible. And With God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). I don’t know where this path will take me but I'm taking this first step with so much faith and love in my heart. You can do it too! I am chasing creativity, I am choosing Graphic Design. See you on my next journey!
